Wisconsin's inter-district public school open enrollment program allows parents to apply for their children to attend school districts other than the one in which they live.  The open enrollment period for Wisconsin begins in February and lasts for several weeks each year.

Who May Participate?

Students in 5-year-old kindergarten to grade 12 may apply to participate in open enrollment. Open enrollment for pre-kindergarten, 4-year-old kindergarten, and early childhood education is limited. Parents should call their resident school districts to find out if their preschool-aged children qualify for open enrollment.

Open Enrollment Process

Parents interested in enrolling into the OASD can access online application forms and detailed application information through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) website.  The Wisconsin DPI website has many resources available for the open enrollment process.

Beginning in the 2018-19 school year, the Wisconsin DPI began offering a part-time open enrollment program.  Students enrolled in a public school in grades 9-12, may attend a public school in a nonresident school district for the purpose of taking a course offered by that nonresident district.  A student may attend no more than 2 courses at any time in the nonresident district.

Visit the Wisconsin DPI Part-time Open Enrollment website for more information or to access the application form.

Should you have questions, please contact Carol Goeller at the District offices, 262-560-2155.

JANUARY 18-29, 2021

4K/5K Registration Process:

  • 4K/5K registration is for all children starting 4K at an OASD school in the 2021-2022 school year and for 5K families that are new to the district and need to enroll their children for the 2021-2022 school year.
  • If your child currently attends an OASD school for 4K, you do not need to register for 5K this month.  You'll use the online registration process during the summer to register for 5K.
  • New-to-the-district parents with children who will be four-years-old or five-years-old on or before Sept. 1, 2021, will be receiving health, immunization, and school registration forms in the mail.  Those forms should be completed and brought to the school the child will be attending on the registration dates along with a copy of the child’s birth certificate.  State law requires the school to have immunization information on file for all first-time entering students.
  • Parents with children who will be four-years-old or five-years-old on or before Sept. 1, 2021, but who have not received registration information from the District should contact the elementary school where their child will be attending. Each school can help provide the necessary forms and information.
  • If you have questions regarding which school your child should attend, please contact Carol Goeller at (262) 560-2155.
  • The Oconomowoc Area School District offers a three-year-old screening program available to those children whose parents have concerns about their child’s development. Parents can call (262) 560-3157 to discuss whether screening is appropriate.

4K/5K Registration Times at OASD Elementary School Sites:

  • Parents can register their children from January 18-29, 2021, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m.
  • OASD Elementary School sites will be open on January 19 from 4:00- 6:00 p.m. for families unable to register during school hours.
