OASD school board approved a policy for random drug testing of 7th-12th grade students who participate in school athletics, clubs or organizations, or who have a school parking pass.

Collaborating with the Community

Community outreach or collaboration recognizes that the community is part of the learning process, Community resources, whether basic or enrichment, contribute to the success of all learners.


Volunteering includes participation by parents and other community members at home, in the community, and at school to improve learning. Even attendance at school events is considered volunteering. The various contributions of all adult family members need to be appreciated. Some people can do more than others can, but all should be valued!


Communicating, which must be two-way, includes responsibilities for both parents and schools. Parents should be encouraged and enabled to talk with school staff about their children, and school staff should be willing to actively listen and offer support. In addition, schools have a responsibility to provide general information, including report cards and other student assessments, in a user-friendly and timely manner.

Making Decisions

Governance and advocacy require parents to be accepted as partners. Parents and other adults need to be advocates for all children, not just their own. Decision making should include perspectives of low-income and minority parents, as well as majority parents and caregivers.

Absences and Excuses

 We ask the cooperation and understanding of all parents in sending their children to school regularly and on time!  Irregular attendance results in considerable educational loss.

District policy requires that parents call the school attendance line when a child is going to be absent from school.

If your child is riding the bus home with another child, please send in a written note for the teacher AND for the bus driver.  It is very difficult for our office staff to deliver messages to students during the school day.  Please plan accordingly!

Recess (Elementary, Intermediate schools)

Students are expected to dress appropriately for the weather and will be required to go out for recess weather permitting.  The only acceptable reasons for staying in at recess are with the teacher's or principal's permission.  All other reasons must have a written medical excuse.  Generally, if the student is well enough to attend school, he/she is well enough to go outside for recess.

Work Permits (High school, Intermediate schools)

Information Required:

  • A letter from the employer on employer’s letterhead, or a letter which includes the business name, business address, business phone number, nature of business, and what type of work the minor will be doing.
  • Parental permission in writing with student’s current address and phone number.
  • $10 Fee
  • (ORIGINAL) Social Security Card 
  • Proof of age:  Birth or baptismal certificate, passport (NO COPIES ACCEPTED), driver's license, state ID 

Permit requests will be accepted Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Student will be able to pick up completed permits after 24 hours. The STUDENT must pick up the work permit because a student’s signature is required on the form.
