Technology & Innovation
The OASD Technology and Innovation Department supports district staff, students, and families by providing access to devices and a strong network, as well as guidance on selecting and using digital resources effectively and responsibly. Students in grades 4-12 are provided with Chromebooks, which are checked out for 3 years. In the classroom, students in grades 1-3 use Chromebooks, and grades 4K-5K use iPads. Canvas is the Learning Management System used for grades 5-12.
If you are having technology trouble or have questions about some of the common learning tools your child is using, please visit the Technology & Innovation website linked below. The website is filled with videos, step-by-step instructions, documents, and links to help families with troubleshooting, Canvas, Seesaw, Google, Chromebooks/iPads/Hotspots, Library Resources, and more.

OASD maintains eight libraries, with a total of over 60,000 materials and many online resources available to students and staff. To comply with the federal Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA), enacted December 21, 2000, our schools use internet filtering software and adult supervision when students use the internet.
In addition to supporting student literacy, our Elementary Libraries also serve as STEM Learning Centers/Makerspaces, which give students the opportunities to learn and apply design thinking concepts, computer science & coding, and digital creation/technology skills.

The Oconomowoc Area School District offers a 1:1 Chromebook Program that provides a Chromebook for each student in grades 4 - 12. Providing students access to a Chromebook, both at school and at home, enables teachers to create blended and web-enhanced learning environments that students can connect to at any time. The optional Chromebook insurance fee has been reduced from $35 per year to $25 per year. Optional insurance is highly recommended.
Requirements to Receive a Chromebook
- Students must review their school handbook agreement, which outlines Chromebook expectations and guidelines.
- Students must have a signed Information Technology and Network Use Agreement on-file with the district.
- Parents/Guardians must complete and consent to the Chromebook program during the yearly OASD online school registration process
The links below provide more detailed information on the Chromebook program.
OASD developed the Technology Plan to provide equity and access to technology for all of our students. Students in grades 4-12 will be issued a Chromebook, while all other students will have access to classroom devices. The Chromebooks will be used to create, collaborate, think critically, and communicate. Chromebooks are used to provide multiple means of representing information, engaging students, and expressing learning. At OASD, we believe in empowering a community of learners and leaders in which students and staff utilize technology to leverage teaching and learning.
Students are responsible for their ethical and educational use of the technology resources of Oconomowoc Area School District. All district policies and handbook expectations apply to the use of Chromebooks. Consequences for inappropriate use are outlined in the Internet Safety and Acceptable Use Policy. Students are responsible for bringing a fully charged Chromebook to school each day for all classes unless advised not to do so by a teacher. Students will use their Google Account Login to access the Internet on the Chromebook. Students’ Google Apps for Education Suite of Tools will be used for work production and saving online work. Chromebooks are the property of Oconomowoc Area School District. Students should handle the device with care. The School Student Handbook and the District Chromebook Website outline the general care of the Chromebook (carry in case, do not eat/drink near Chromebook, do not leave Chromebook unsupervised, etc…).
Students are encouraged to use the Chromebook at school and at home. The Oconomowoc Area School District uses a network filtering system as one means of measurement of protection for our students. A comprehensive approach including protection measures, monitoring and instruction is utilized in our school district. The district-issued student Chromebooks will have Internet filtering at school and at home to the extent it is possible with the tools in place within the School District & Google Apps for Education Administration. There may be times when the filtering tools may not work, may fail, or changes beyond the District’s control may occur causing web filtering to not occur on the district-issued devices when they are not within the School District. Parents and students are encouraged to report to their site administrator any complaints or concerns regarding student access or exposure to any content, activities, or communications that may be harmful, deceptive, or otherwise inappropriate or objectionable. It is recommended a student’s use of the Internet be monitored.
We encourage families to have conversations about responsible technology use. We recommend using the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction's New Interactive Safety Resource.
Additional Internet Safety Information can be found here.
The Internet Safety and Acceptable Use Policy 363.2 applies to the Chromebook and its use. Click this link to read the full policy.
All Chromebooks are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty for malfunction due to manufacturing or non-performance issues. The warranty does not cover damage that is determined (by the District) to be accidental, intentional, or the result of negligent use or treatment; nor does it cover outright loss or destruction of the Chromebook, power cord, battery, or sleeve.
